OUR TRIP TO KENTUCKY

LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2014


Several of our members drove to Danville Kentucky and met up at a local motel.   Another club from North Carolina, helped arrange this trip and the digs.  I must say we met some wonderful people and made good friends.

Our first day of rock hunting for geodes was at horse breeding farm.

The geodes were everywhere, every other rock seemed to be one.

The one thing that did us in was the heat. It was hard working in the sun.

We all gathered our stones and went to the canopy to crack them open

On the way back to the motel some of us stopped at a road cut.

There was a quarry behind it.

  We went though some of the tailings. Every rock was filled with fossil seashells.

The second day we were prospecting in a stream behind a goat farm.

It was a rainy day, but it didn't slow anybody down. In fact it kept the heat away and we all could work a little longer.

 The geodes here were plentiful and good quality. we all were very excited

That evening after we cleaned ourselves up we all went out to dinner together.

Ron and Elaine treated us all to appetizers, as a thank you for us pushing them out of the mud. That's the one bad thing about parking your car in a field by a stream on a rainy day.

On the third day the group got a little smaller. People had to get back, so just a handful of us went to the next steam.

I personally think this was the most productive of all.

The geodes were everywhere and you could see how they just fell out of the walls of the banks.
